Cape Town dreams

Cassandra, over at Coco + Kelley, invited her readers to throw out their ideal vacations - real or imagined. Mine is fully imagined....for now. Here's where Sean & I are jetting off to in my dreams:

Planning vacations ranks up there as one of my all time favorite ways to waste time. Today, in my dreams - we're off to Cape Town, South Africa. It's just my husband & I this trip. My birthday was on the 16th and our anniversary is September 1st so we've decided to go big or stay home.

We're staying at The Twelve Apostles Hotel & Spa. Holy divinity it this place gorgeous! Views from bed, views from the tub, when you dine, when you play. Totally enveloped in splendor. The Twelve Apostle Mountains behind, the Atlantic before, and fantastic downtown Capetown just a jaunt away. When we aren't getting spa treatments or eating ourselves silly - we plan to hit the shops, see some good theater, peruse museums, and eat some more. The ridiculously accommodating hotel staff will even have a picnic packed for us as we check out Table Mountain National Park.

All in all we plan on having no plan at all and just going wherever the South African wind may carry.

I was lucky enough to spend a week in Cape Town this summer, and it was absolutely excellent. Though we didn't stay at the Twelve Apostles, we had an incredible time. It is really a city worth visiting! And if you ever do go, try their sushi. It is everywhere and it is marvelous!

I hope you get there one day - you won't be disappointed! I really enjoyed my time there. Oh, and my birthday and our anniversary are really close together too so we usually do a joint blowout celebration too. :)

I had the good fortune to spend 5 days in Cape Town in March this year--and fell in love with the city. Think San Francisco, but with better weather--and a more dramatic setting with Table Mountain as the backdrop! Two suggestions: have dinner one night at the Gold of Africa Museum--you'll be served delicious dishes from many different regions of the country--and then entertained by the singers, dancers and drummers who just served your dinner. They're all very talented. (The Museum is also excellent--not too big--and has a nice gift shop.)
Also, visit a shop called AFRICA NOVA for superb crafts and collectibles--avoid the touristy schlock sold in Green Market Square. Happy travels!

emily, i had to share what's in your suitcase over on my blog as this is what i'd love to be frolicking around in this weekend. love these picks! and i've been daydreaming of vacations too — we're trying to pick a place to celebrate our 1st anniversary. it will be much more local than cape town, but dreaming of vacations is sure fun.
